AtheistsClub

Mon Jun 4, 2007, 7:19 AM
WELCOME

AtheistsClub is for the most deviant of deviants: atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, and all hard core freethinkers.

The AtheistsClub promotes artists that share a way of thinking and living that aims to bring out the best in people so that all people can have the best in life. Our members reject supernatural and authoritarian beliefs. They affirm that we must take responsibility for our own lives and the communities and world in which we live. The AtheistsClub is for artists who emphasize reason and scientific inquiry, individual freedom and responsibility, human values and compassion, and the need for tolerance and cooperation.

JOURNAL 2007.06.04

Creation Museum

The young-earth creationist ministry (AnswersInGenesis.com) opened the doors of its lavish creation museum in northern Kentucky on May 28, 2007.

Stephen T. Asma discusses the deeper agenda of the "museum" in eSkeptic magazine.

Lawrence M. Krauss responded to the "museum's" claim that the Earth is only 6000 years old with Top 10 Reasons Why the Universe, the Sun, Earth, and Life are NOT 6000 years old.

Brights Rock!

The *brights last journal had this great video of Richard Dawkins and Alister McGrath. Most of our AtheistsClub members also watch the *brights, so you've probably seen it already. I thought I'd list it here as well though, just in case. As Sean said, If you want to know what happens when you let Richard Dawkins loose on an academic theologian, you have to watch it.

THE WORD

Psalm 137:9

How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock.

The God Machine

AtheistsClub member =SpookyChan is author of ~TheGodMachineComic. Page six of book one was the very first part of the story I saw. Chandra's great art work, combined with the juxtaposition of the demon and the freedom loving toothbrush, got me hook, line, and sinker. And don't even get me started about Mr. Insane Sock Puppet!

ONE WEEK

The AtheistsClub usually responds to notes and messages within one week. We do better on some days than others, but seven days seems to be the practical limit on how much we can do when things get busy. We almost never get complaints, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knows, we are definitely not ignoring you if it takes that long! Thanks for understanding.

wtf? Theres a creationist museum that says the earth and everything is 6000 years old? They probably think the world is flat! How in the world did they get funding and even the proper legal forms to do this? I believe we need to start a petition. I will contact atheists.org about this.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at those who think dinosaurs were vegan.

Back when I cared about creationism's garbage, I thought Christians in general "knew" the earth was more like 8-10,000 years old. Yay contradictions upon contradictions.

Dawkins/McGrath video: In the end it's just another proof that Discordianism actually know what it's talking about. :giggle: (We all see chaos through different filters.) I actually had a bit of trouble following this video at first, and I have problems with both sides of the creation vs evolution argument presented there, but whatever, that's my filter in effect. ^^; (I don't believe in creation, but I'm also not impressed with evolution either.) One thing I do think is a cop-out on the religious side is the whole "god always existed, because he just did" argument.

Where they're arguing about salvation... to me it seems Christians are attracted to this get-out-of-jail-free-card. The worst people I have ever known have been self-proclaimed Christians. The few Christians I've met who have been better people actually have beliefs that go directly against the fundamental rules of the religion. This whole point is one of the main reasons I fled the religious scene as soon as I realized I'd been brainwashed into it. Also, the disturbing trend for brainwashing in that environment is the tombstone on the grave of Christianity specifically. (Since I haven't had personal experience with the other major religions I'd rather not make broad assumptions about them, so I'll leave the thought where it is.)

And the whole suffering argument, ZING! That's pretty much the other reason I ran screaming from Christianity... I've been through some truly horrible things and I would not wish those things on even my worst enemy, and I'm most certainly not a "perfect, loving" god, I'm just human. So a "perfect, loving" god letting me go through those things in my life... dude, that's not perfect or loving at all. It's pointless. If not quite evil.

The theologean waffling on where or not god intervenes in the world is hilarious. Why bother praying if god will not intervene at all? And if god does intervene, why save that "one child" in the tsunami but not anybody else? And again, if god does not intervene, what the heck was he doing with Jesus? (I don't really care whether or not the man existed, but if he did I'm inclined to believe that he had kids and of course wasn't any sort of deity-spawn.) Strange to see a theologean flip-flop on divine intervention so badly. Tsk.

LOL they cut Dawkins off when he tried to get McGrath to agree that policing thought was deeply evil. They could tell where he was going with that. :lmao: And his final statements are so awesome.

I'd join Brights but I like my mystical and supernatural theories the way they are. ;)

Yeah, the vegan thing always gets me. I mean, the dinosaurs were so TOTALLY vegetarian! Who could possibly believe in dinosaurs that didn't eat cheese? Come on. Vegan? Please...
