Atheist's Club

Mon Oct 29, 2007, 8:53 AM
WELCOME

AtheistsClub is for the most deviant of deviants: atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, and all hard core freethinkers.

The AtheistsClub promotes artists that share a way of thinking and living that aims to bring out the best in people so that all people can have the best in life. Our members reject supernatural and authoritarian beliefs. They affirm that we must take responsibility for our own lives and the communities and world in which we live. The AtheistsClub is for artists who emphasize reason and scientific inquiry, individual freedom and responsibility, human values and compassion, and the need for tolerance and cooperation. Oh, and let's have some fun too!

How to Join
Becoming a member of the AtheistsClub is easy, just add us to your friends list. We will confirm your membership by adding you to ours. If you really want to be uber-cool, you can also send us a self-portrait for our gallery. Its not required for membership, it's just fun.

JOURNAL 2007.10.29

MEMBERS ROCK!

I wanted to say thank you to all our AtheistsClub members. A number of you offered to pitch in and help the club as we re-organize to deal with our ever growing numbers. Some of you even noticed that our DA subscription had run out--and got us a new one! I can't tell you how gratifying it is to know that so many people are willing to help us out.

Behind the scenes we are still re-organizing so you'll see odd things here and there, and the journal will be a little thin until next year, but things are going along well.

Again, thank you all for your support.

-Charles

HUMANISM

In this week's journal we continue our series of articles about humanism. We're moving on to the second statement in the Humanist Manifesto III as put forth by the American Humanist Association.

"Humans are an integral part of nature, the result of unguided evolutionary change. Humanists recognize nature as self-existing. We accept our life as all and enough, distinguishing things as they are from things as we might wish or imagine them to be. We welcome the challenges of the future, and are drawn to and undaunted by the yet to be known."

More next week.

ART

Our own ~lordogreus sent in his work Smokin' Jesus for us to to check out, and ~bleakmidwintertears's Remains really caught my eye as well.

LINKS

AtheistsClub maintains a collections of resource links to help our members explore the free-thinking world.

ONE WEEK

The AtheistsClub usually responds to notes and messages within one week. We do better on some days than others, but seven days seems to be the practical limit on how much we can do when things get busy. We almost never get complaints, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knows, we are definitely not ignoring you if it takes that long! Thanks for understanding.

:iconlordogreus:
According to Merriam-Webster, and atheist is "one who believes that there is no deity." A lot of this is spelled out in the journal entries here, if you're willing to look through them.

It's more an absence of religion, though I'm sure there are religious people who would love to call it a religion -- perhaps to level the playing field, as it were.
:iconremagoen:
Hey guys, I've got a question. Naturally, I asked my religious friends first, but most didn't know the answer or weren't particularly sure about it.

My question is, which came first: The Great Flood or the Tower of Babel?

The Flood is supposed to wipe out all but 8 people, and the Tower is the story explaining why there are so many different languages out there. If the Tower was first, it STILL doesn't explain the language issue because it would have been reduced to one language all over again. If it's the Flood first (which I think is), then never mind.

Just seeking a little bit of information first before I start my argument, as I can't even seem to find it on the net, which is kind of weird.
