Atheist's Club

Mon Nov 19, 2007, 8:36 AM
WELCOME

AtheistsClub is for the most deviant of deviants: atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, and all hard core freethinkers.

The AtheistsClub promotes artists that share a way of thinking and living that aims to bring out the best in people so that all people can have the best in life. Our members reject supernatural and authoritarian beliefs. They affirm that we must take responsibility for our own lives and the communities and world in which we live. The AtheistsClub is for artists who emphasize reason and scientific inquiry, individual freedom and responsibility, human values and compassion, and the need for tolerance and cooperation. Oh, and let's have some fun too!

How to Join
Becoming a member of the AtheistsClub is easy, just add us to your friends list. We will confirm your membership by adding you to ours. If you really want to be uber-cool, you can also send us a self-portrait for our gallery. Its not required for membership, it's just fun.

JOURNAL 2007.11.19

HUMANISM

In this week's journal we continue our series of articles about humanism. We're moving on to the fourth statement in the Humanist Manifesto III as put forth by the American Humanist Association.

"Life’s fulfillment emerges from individual participation in the service of humane ideals. We aim for our fullest possible development and animate our lives with a deep sense of purpose, finding wonder and awe in the joys and beauties of human existence, its challenges and tragedies, and even in the inevitability and finality of death. Humanists rely on the rich heritage of human culture and the lifestance of Humanism to provide comfort in times of want and encouragement in times of plenty."

More next week.

Look at what ~ProsePetals found!

The Atlanta Freethought Society is a non-profit educational organization that exists to provide a community for non-theists in the Metro Atlanta, Georgia area through educational, advocacy, and social activities.

EVOLUTION

=firedance99 sent in this link to "a christian website with a few videos, including one on evolution and how it is disproved."

Or not...

I'm going to go way out on a limb here, and guess that ~Koobine probably doesn't agree...

Of course, what can we do without creationism to explain everything? Maybe turn to science and the awe inspiring reality of nature?

ONE WEEK

The AtheistsClub usually responds to notes and messages within one week. We do better on some days than others, but seven days seems to be the practical limit on how much we can do when things get busy. We almost never get complaints, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knows, we are definitely not ignoring you if it takes that long! Thanks for understanding.

I will do what I can in the next few weeks (despite wedding plans) to find similar organizations for various metro areas across the country (mostly the "Bible belt"-type areas, because as a non-believer, it's easy to feel VERY much alone and isolated)...as well as try to find some international sites. I know there are probably a gajillion, but it might add value to those members here who don't necessarily know where to look.

 wow i loved that creationist video. i've yet to see one not littered with emotional appeal, overuse of the words 'random' and 'accidental,' and false quote mining. i also love the typical way in which it defaults right to the christian god as the only possible creative force without a single effort toward supporting evidence for that alone (except for first stamping out natural causes of course). thanks for the link!

The audio in that video reminds me of the valley girl stereo-type, except that instead of saying "like" every couple of sentences, they say "random."

The DaVinci Code. Great Old Ones, are they still going on about that? There's a reason it's in the fiction section!

Talking about Atlanta (there was a mention of it in the journal :P), I read in the paper that the governor (Perdue I think?) had organized for everyone to pray for rain (due to the on-going droughts). Perhaps he could have spent that time informing people about ways they can help conserve the water that's left... Might prove more effective.
:iconatheistsclub:
You know, you never hear of someone organizing a massive orgy for rain, do you? Odd. It would seem so obvious.
